Construction Expected to Begin Shortly

Construction of the Airport Runway extension in Campbell River in the amount of $2,014,242 was awarded to Wacor Holdings Ltd. by the City of Campbell River. Construction for this Vancouver Island project is anticipated to begin shortly.

Designs for the upgrades to the terminal building are expected to be completed by early August and tender for construction is expected to be completed by September. Funding for this $6 million Vancouver Island project was received from Island Coastal Economic Trust in the amount of $2.31 million. One-third of the airport runway extension project funding was received from both Provincial and Federal Government and the remaining $400,000 will be paid by the City of Campbell River.

The extension of the Campbell River airport runway is from 5,000 feet to 6,500 feet.  This extension will expand this Vancouver Island airport’s ability to fill corporate air travel needs and offer a larger inventory of aviation support industries and services enhancing passenger and freight service.

This Vancouver Island project will also involve extensive site preparation, excavation, fill and compacting activities. The entire project is expected to be completed before March 2011.
