“Canada’s Great Street 2017” is First Avenue in Ladysmith

The community of Ladysmith has been honoured by the Canadian Institute of Planners with the title of Canada’s 2017 Great Street, in recognition of the Town’s historic First Avenue.

First Avenue is a defining area of this charming community on Vancouver Island, and was recognized based on criteria that included social, economic and accessibility and safety factors, as well as elements including design, culture, history and landscape. First Avenue beat out 16 other submissions from across Canada.

VIREB Commercial Building Awards Finalists Announced

The 10th Annual Vancouver Island Real Estate Board Commercial Building Awards Finalists have been announced. The awards are set for April 20 at the Coast Bastion Hotel in Nanaimo.

More than 50 projects were eligible this year for the awards, which celebrate the best in commercial, community and industrial buildings north of the Malahat on Vancouver Island which were completed between Jan. 1 – Dec. 31, 2016. There are 30 finalists in 12 categories in these awards: Community, Institutional, Multi-Family Apartment, Multi-Family Townhome, Non-Market Housing, Retail, Retail Automotive, Retail Renovation, Industrial, Industrial Renovation, Hospitality and Green.

 

The 2016 Judges’ Choice Award Winner for Best Overall Entry was the Blue Grouse Winery building in Duncan.

Campbell River: Evergreen Senior’s Housing Phase 3, FYi Doctors Renovation, Willow Point, Mariner’s Landing.

Call for Nominees for the 10th Annual VIREB Commercial Building Awards

Organizers of the 10th Annual Vancouver Island Real Estate Board Commercial Building Awards, set for April 20, at the Coast Bastion Hotel in Nanaimo, are looking for nominations.

Commercial, industrial and revenue-producing projects, including renovations, from the Malahat to Port Hardy are up for these awards, and must have been completed between January 1 and December 31, 2016.

The Nomination deadline is March 2. There will be at least 11 commercial categories:

  • Seniors housing
  • Community institutional
  • Community recreational

  • Industrial

Four Campbell River Buildings Up For VIREB Commercial Building Awards

Four Campbell River buildings have been nominated for top honours in the Seventh Annual Vancouver Island Real Estate Board Commercial Building Awards.

The awards will be held Thursday, April 24, at the Coast Bastion Inn in Nanaimo.

The four nominees are: Rose Harbour, 116 Dogwood Street, Timberline Village Shopping Centre, 801 Hilchey Road, Cornerstone Residences, 701 Merecroft Road and Target Renovation, 1324 Island Hwy.

They are among 49 nominations for the event, which honours the best in commercial and industrial building north of the Malahat on Vancouver Island.

Re/Max Commercial is title sponsor of the event, with Coastal Community Credit Union and Colliers as Gold Sponsors.

“It’s been amazing to see the number of quality projects that have entered this year’s competition,” says Robert MacDonald, who is coordinating the event for Business Examiner Vancouver Island newspaper. “Last year was a complete sellout and had two more finalists, and early indications are this event will sell out very quickly.”

2013 CARE Awards Nominations Now Being Accepted

CARE AwardsThe Canadian Home Builders’ Association-Victoria announces the Call for Entry for the 2013 Construction Achievements and Renovations of Excellence (CARE) Awards of Vancouver Island.

“The CARE Awards is the premier event on Vancouver Island, celebrating outstanding west coast design and craftsmanship in residential construction,” says Cam Hayward, Chair of the 2013 CARE Awards.

The entry deadline for the 2013 CARE Awards is Monday, June 10, 4:00 pm, when all entries must be received at the CHBA-Victoria office, #1-3690 Carey Rd, Victoria. All entrants must be members of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association, a registered non-profit organization supporting education and training, professionalism, consumer awareness, and housing affordability.

Top Georgie for Best Residential Community in BC Goes to Qualicum Landing on Vancouver Island

Qualicum Landing georgie award winnerThe Qualicum Landing beachfront luxury home development on Vancouver Island has been honoured with the Grand Georgie for Best Residential Community of the Year 2012. The 21st annual Georgie Awards, honouring excellence in home construction in British Columbia, were presented on Feb. 23 at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
Qualicum Landing, a new home development consisting of 62 luxury homes in an oceanfront community north of Qualicum Beach, was nominated for – and won – a total of three Georgie Awards this year. In addition to the Grand Georgie, Qualicum Landing and Builder Palladian developments were honoured with Best Renovation for under $100,000 for the Seascape and Best Single Family Home up to 2,000 square feet for the Hollyburn.
Up against some of BC’s top competition, the entire table leaped up with a cheer when the name Qualicum Landing was called. Palladian Developments, the builder for Qualicum Landing put an incredible amount of effort presenting at these awards. Chris Cross, owner of Palladian had this to say in a press release about the win: “There’s a lot of building activity that happens on Vancouver Island, it’s very high quality but we don’t receive a lot of industry recognition. For us to be able to represent this community to our peers, as well as all of the amazing work happening on Vancouver Island is a great feeling indeed.”
